Stallion Register

The Bradford County Historical Society has the microfilm collection of Stallion Registers from 1893 to 1950. Pennsylvania passed legislation in 1893 requiring the licensing of stallions and jacks to encourage but also regulate breeding those used in public service whether at a home stable or traveling for breeding purposes. In order to obtain a license the owner had to have a duly qualified veterinarian examine the animal for soundness. The indexed three volume Stallion Register for Bradford County contains:

  • Name of Owner
  • Name of Horse
  • Registration Number
  • Age
  • Hands High
  • Weight
  • Color
  • Sire
  • Dam
  • Conditions and Terms
